Let’s face it: we don’t always know what is beneath the surface of our carpets. Our routine vacuuming efforts only do so much to keep them clean. What most of us don’t realize is that our DIY carpet cleaning probably isn’t cutting it. Occasionally, we just really need to lean on a deeper clean.
Take a look at these 3 facts about carpet cleaning that you probably didn’t know.
Satisfaction Should Be Guaranteed
Did you know that any company that claims to clean your carpets has to guarantee their work? There are actually legal requirements for carpet cleaners to stand behind their workmanship. This means that you have the right to say you’re not happy with the results.
Most companies that truly care about their customers will offer a guarantee like this anyway. However, if you’re using a company that refuses to stand behind their work, they’re breaking the law. The cleaning companies should guarantee the work for a specific timeframe and return to clean again without any additional charge if you’re dissatisfied.
Obviously, there is some protection for the company, so don’t take advantage of this guarantee. But you do have the right to the clean carpet that you paid for.
Allergies Be Gone
The state of your carpet might actually be affecting your health and allergies. Beneath that surface layer, your carpet is likely loaded with allergy triggers. This includes things like dust, pet dander, dirt, and more. Did you know that in one year, your carpet can actually accumulate several pounds of dirt and debris? Those numbers are astonishing and just might make you want to clean your carpets more!
On that same note, your carpet can house dust mites. Those nasty little creatures will make their homes in your carpet with no concern for your health. All of these things can trigger health problems like allergies and asthma. You might not even realize it’s the carpet’s fault.
Regular Professional Carpet Cleaning
You probably already know that you should get your carpets cleaned on occasion. Maybe you even have your own shampooer. Even if you are regularly cleaning and treating the carpets, though, you should have them professionally cleaned at least once a year.
The professional recommendation is a minimum of once a year. However, every 6 months is the best plan to keep your carpets clean. The statistics about the junk that gets into your carpet would totally disgust you. A regular cleaning will do a ton for the carpet. It’s the best way to get a true clean that can also help your carpets last a lot longer.

Professional carpet cleaning is a service that every homeowner should take advantage of at least once a year. However, in between those cleanings, life can happen and you can end up with spills or stains on your clean carpet. Luckily, there are a few DIY things that you can try to help pull that stain up, or at least reduce it until the next cleaning is scheduled.
Check out these 3 DIY carpet cleaning techniques to try immediately after a spill.
1. Baking Soda and Vinegar
Baking soda and vinegar is a favorite DIY treatment. The solution is great for pulling up stains. If there are any odors associated with the stain, it may help with that too. This is an effective way to spot treat stains. Here are some quick steps that you can follow.
Dab up the stain as much as possible with a paper towel or towel.
Immediately follow with a generous coating of baking soda. Sprinkle the powder over the stain until it is thoroughly covered.
Take a spoon (or a tablespoon) of vinegar and slowly drizzle it all over the baking soda. The goal is to cause a fizzing effect with the baking soda over the entire stain. It doesn’t take much, but each area needs to be covered.
Now grab a cleaning brush, preferably something with hard bristles or a coarse surface, and gently scrub the area where the solution is. Don’t scrub away the solution.
Allow the solution to sit for several hours or overnight.
Vacuum up the solution. The stain should be gone or at least be considerably lighter.
2. Salt Treatment Carpet Cleaning
This sounds like an unusual approach to a stain but for fresh stains, it just might work. You need a good amount of granulated salt, as well as some cold water and a cleaning brush.
Start by using a rag or paper towel to blot up as much liquid as possible. Then, sprinkle the salt generously over the stain. Make sure it’s completely covered. Let that sit for 5-10 minutes. When you go back to the stain, pour just a little bit of cold water over the salt and then scrub with a cleaning brush.
Once you’ve scrubbed, go ahead and use a clean, damp cloth to rinse and then dry as much as possible. You may need to use your vacuum cleaner to get rid of the salt.
3. Dawn Dish Soap
Dawn is popular for treating stains on dishes, and it can easily help with that stain on your carpet as well. You will need some Dawn soap, a little bit of vinegar, and a cleaning brush. You need to create a cleaning solution using about 1 cup of vinegar to 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap.
Mix that together well. If you can, put it in a spray bottle. Cover the stain thoroughly with the cleaning solution and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Follow up with a hard or coarse cleaning brush, and scrub away. You don’t even have to rinse when you finish!

Spring is in the air! That means it is time to open up the windows and get some deep cleaning done, right? There are some fantastic professional cleaning services that can help to make sure you get your home perfectly ready for the spring.
Check out these 3 cleaning services you might want to consider.
Carpet Cleaning
When was the last time you had the carpets professionally cleaned? Professional carpet cleaning is recommended about twice a year. Even if you only get it every 12 months, that’s better than never. Carpet cleaning will spruce up your carpets and rid them of the dirt and debris that have made their home beneath the surface.
You might be surprised at just how much cleaning the carpets can improve the look of your home. Even when you regularly vacuum, it’s easy for dirt and debris to get lodged beneath the surface and hang out there. The only way to get rid of it is with some heavy-duty cleaning.
Upholstery Cleaning
Do you ever feel like your couch or furniture looks dingy? It’s probably just because it needs a good cleaning. Upholstery cleaning is another ideal service for spring cleaning. Your upholstery also tends to hold dirt and debris beneath the surface. This can affect how the upholstery looks over time.
Having a professional come in and deep clean the upholstery can really spruce up your home. That clean look and feeling will get you excited for spring. Upholstery cleaning should be done at least once a year but it’s really best to consider 2-3 times a year.
Tile & Grout Cleaning
While we’re at it, let’s take a look at the tile floors. Our guess is your grout and maybe even your tile are starting to look discolored. It’s not anything you’re doing wrong. It’s just that they age and gather dirt like any other surface. The grout is porous so it’s easy for it to hold dirt. Even with regular mopping and sweeping, dirt still builds up over time.
Professional tile & grout cleaning uses industrial solutions and equipment to really get your tile and grout looking its best. It will go from dingy and discolored to bright and clean again in no time. In fact, you might not even realize just how much it looked “blah” until you get it cleaned and see the difference.
Tile & grout cleaning is recommended once or twice a year by a professional. You can maintain it in between services.

No one wants to find mold wreaking havoc in their homes. But when you do, mold testing can help you figure out just what you might be facing. Mold can be different in various areas. Some areas are more likely to see certain types of mold. It’s also important to note that some types of mold might be considered more hazardous than others.
In this guide, we will share with you the 5 most common types of mold found in Arizona homes. Take a look at these for more information.
1. Penicillium
The first type of mold is penicillium. This is more likely to be found inside than anywhere else. Anything like carpet, furniture, and even insulation can grow this type of mold but it typically arises after water damage has occurred.
The problem is that penicillium spreads very fast. Once it takes root, it can move quickly and cause extensive mold damage in the process. This should be treated and removed as quickly as possible.
2. Stachybotrys Chartarum
This is the most-dreaded mold out there. It’s what you might know as “black mold.” The problem is that it is toxic. Not only can it damage your home, but it can be detrimental to your health as well. Black mold has been known to cause breathing problems and even aggravate health issues.
Things like asthma, sinus infections, and even depression can be the result of black mold taking root. It likes to harbor in an area that is dark and damp, and that is where it’s most likely to be found in your home.
3. Alternaria
Alternaria is very common, particularly in a residential area. It can be inside or outside. The only thing it needs is a damp environment. Now, we know that Arizona isn’t exactly known for dampness, but you could easily find this in the bathroom or spreading near a faucet of some sort.
Alternaria likes damp, cool environments and it grows quickly once it starts. While it’s not necessarily toxic like black mold, it has been known to cause allergies and asthma attacks on occasion.
4. Aureobasidium
This type of mold is found most often on wood or on wallpaper and caulking materials. This includes wooden furniture. It’s very noticeable and will show up in either a black or a pink color, which makes it stand out. Take note here that just because it is black does not make it black mold.
That being said, you don’t want to let this mold stick around. It can cause illness and might trigger severe allergies for some people.
5. Cladosporium
Finally, we bring you one last common mold. This one is tricky. It lives in both warm and cold environments. Most of the time, you find this in green and brown tones. You will find it on cabinets, floorboards, carpet, and even aged fabrics. You should take care with this type of mold, as it can cause breathing problems as well.

If you are concerned about mold testing in your home, Semper Fi Yuma Floor Care and Restoration can help. We have the ability to work with you to figure out what kind of mold you are dealing with. Once we identify the issue, we can help you remove and restore your space.
When it comes to cleanup services, there are many options out there. One of those is trauma cleanup services. When the word “trauma” is used, people automatically question whether it is necessary or they picture a murder scene. However, that is not always the case.
Check out this guide to learn all of the details about trauma cleanup.
What Are Trauma Cleanup Services?
Let’s start with an overview of just what this type of cleaning is. It’s not your everyday cleaning protocol. Trauma cleaning often requires specific disinfection processes. In many cases, it also means that the cleaners are working with biohazards.
The cleaning involved might cover chemicals, blood, bodily fluids, and more. In general, trauma cleanup is related to crime scenes or an area where something traumatic happened. It’s not always caused by crime. It may be something like an unattended death or a major accident.
What Type of Cleaning is Included?
Trauma cleaning and biohazard cleaning are often closely related. Not all biohazard cleaning is trauma-related. These are things like accidents or chemical spills. You find dangerous or harmful material here. This also includes animal waste.
Trauma cleaning services are a much deeper situation. These situations include crime scenes, hoarding, meth labs, and more. In these cases, there is trauma that leads to the need for sanitation and cleaning. It’s a safety matter here. You use very specific equipment, and you must also dispose of infected materials under specific guidelines.
Safety and Training
On the cleanup scene, you have to be very careful. Companies that clean trauma scenes have extensive training. They are also certified to handle the situation. This means they have the right equipment and the knowledge to safely handle every part of the scene.
Keep in mind that your normal mop or household cleaner is not sufficient. You must remove waste from the scene. Additionally, you must also disinfect the scene and surrounding space. If anything might have spread beyond the immediate scene, these have to be sanitized as well.
The cleaning process requires thorough inspection and a multi-step approach. When the cleaning is complete, disposal is another matter. You dispose of materials as biohazardous items. Not just anyone has the ability to do this.
